Orchids have always been
facinating flowers to me. I
love the patterns, lines and
colors that they display. When
I look at them they remind me
of a cross between an exotic
flower and some sort of a sea
creature. At the last garden
show that I attended there
were a lot of gorgeous orchids
displayed.
This particular one reminded
me of star fish. The shape,
colors and markings are very
star fish like. I chose dark
chocolate brown for a
background because I thought
it would look striking behind
the colors in the orchid.
{Also, because I absolutely
adore chocolate.) This style
of painting I call hard edge. I
felt that this style best
illustrates the orchid I was
painting. The name "African
Queen" is the actual name of
this particular variety of
orchids.
