“Waterscapes” original watercolors, 8×10″ mat $10.00

31 August 2010

‘Waterscapes’ photo by Bryan Dixon

Each Waterscape is completely different from every other Waterscape. These interesting little studies in acrylic and water were made as I painted different paintings. No two are alike, and each one is unique to a particular painting that I was working on. They come matted for a standard 8”x10” frame. They need to be under glass to protect them. You may specify a color scheme that you are interested in. If I have one available at that time it will be yours.

Specify: reds, oranges, yellows, greens, blues, purples or browns

Note: The colors above will be the dominant color. Most of the “Waterscapes” are multi-colored.

Giant Red Poppies

20 August 2010

My new poppy painting is really starting to jump out of the canvas now.  yesterday was a fabulous day for me in the studio.  I painted for eight hours before I knew it was time to feed my dog Bonnie.  Bonnie is my best friend and also my studio helper.  She watches me paint.  Its very hot here in Spicewood, Texas, and Bonnie likes to lay in the air-conditioning while I work.  She is a golden retriever and absolutely the sweetest dog I have ever had.

Yesterday the giant poppies in my painting came to life!  The vivid reds against the cool greens and blues of the fields almost jump off of the canvas at you.  I am very excited about painting today.  I can see the rest of the painting now.  The shadows, colors and shapes that are layered in the background have shown me where they are.  Today I am going to bring them to the surface!

A New Painting

19 August 2010

I have been working on a new painting for the coming show that “ Artisan’s at Rocky Hill” in Fredericksburg is having for Rick and me.  The painting is a 24″ x 36″ original acrylic of giant red poppies.  I have been painting as if I am down in the field among the flowers.  The bright reds against the emerald green fields look like rubies in the grass.  I have placed a few soft pink poppies in to compliment the giant red poppies.  I have selected the complimentary colors red and green to be the major portion of the painting.

When I paint I let the painting grow out of the canvas.  When I say grow out of the canvas I mean that when the paint is applied it reminds me of certain shapes and shadows.  I stop and look as I paint to see if the colors are trying to appear.  Today I have seen the shadows of the poppies leaves.  Its the first day that I have actually seen the shapes that were layered in the background.  Its very exciting to me when I see shapes that are telling me they want to come out on the painting!  Today in my studio I am helping them begin to emerge.

Linda Rauch Gallery

The news I would like to share with you today is about the opening of our new gallery.  My gallery is located in the gorgeous Texas Hill Country near Lake Travis.  It is about a 30 minute drive south west of Austin, Texas.  The gallery is filled with my paintings and watercolors, and also Rick’s copper sculpture pieces.  A visit to the gallery is a beautiful drive through the Hill Country.  You can preview the gallery by looking in the gallery section on the web site.  Rick built the gallery himself and we are both very excited about having it finished and opened to the public.  We have lovely decks to take in the views, and shaded patios to relax in.  Please join us for an afternoon in our Hill Country gallery.
