“Summer” Giclee on canvas

31 August 2011

I was inspired by two completely different summer scenes when I created this painting. One was a country ride that I went on in the Hill Country, and the other was from a group of gorgeous wildflowers that were growing. The painting combines both of these scenes together. “Summer” has the bright happy colors of summer wildflowers, combined with the peacefulness that you feel in a country setting. I was intrigued with the challenge of combining peaceful feelings with intensely bright colors when I painted this.

“Wedding Day” Giclee on canvas

14 April 2011

This painting was a piece that I painted for our son Christopher and his wife Rita. I named it “Wedding Day” because it has the colors of their wedding in it. The painting has flowers that bloom in the spring, which is when they were married. This painting combines the reds and purples that were sprinkled throughout the wedding ceremony. I chose the pale pinks to represent the softness of a wedding, and the reds to represent the passion of young love. The style that I chose is a combination of what Chris and Rita liked in two very different paintings. It is mid-way between the softness of Monet, and the boldness of my hard edge fantasy style. Chris liked the hard edge bold paintings, and Rita liked the soft impressionist style that I paint in. This painting brings both styles together for them.

“Field of Poppies” Giclee on canvas 24×36.

1 August 2010

One sunny afternoon on the way to “The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center” we spotted this gorgeous field of poppys near a bank parking lot. My friend Terry Garity fortunately had his camera along. Since we were on a trip to see wildflowers, we had flowers on our minds. These lovely poppys were bobbing their heads in the sunlight as
they danced to the flight of the many bumblebees that were enjoying them. This was truly a bumblebee heaven! This spectacular field was in south Austin, Texas. I was so thrilled when I saw the photo Terry took that I painted the poppys.

“Poppy Parade” 12″ x 12″ giclee on canvas

1 August 2010

These bright and happy poppies were in a field of wildflowers along the side of a country road in early summer. They were so interesting as their blossoms bobbed up and down that they reminded me of a happy parade with marching band music playing. Their brilliant colors against the clear blue sky was so stunning that I just had to put them on canvas.
