Hard Edge Fantasy

“Rubies and Emeralds” acrylic 24″ × 36 ″ $1800.00

18 September 2010

This painting came from the gorgeous poppies that came up in my flower bed this spring. I planted a mixed packet of flower seeds by my front door courtyard area. These brilliant red poppies came up among a tangled mass of green. When the buds poked their heads up through the masses they reminded me of green emeralds. The ruby red flower blossoms were dazzling in the sunlight! The combination of the two together looked like rubies and emeralds. When the sun hit the blossoms and buds they sparkled like jewels in a green velvet box. These giant red poppies looked like they were rubies that were on fire. The colors in the painting are intense so that you can feel the way they looked to me on that warm spring morning. Poppies are my favorite flowers. I wanted to show you the magic I saw in these delicate petals and fragile stems with giant red blossoms.

“Sue’s Flower Bed” original acrylic 16″ x 20″ $450.00

14 August 2010

My friend Sue sent me a gorgeous photo of the flower bed she planted this spring. Sue loves to garden and always has something growing that is beautiful. The flower bed was actually planted inside of an old iron bed. The colors of the flowers were so dazzling together that I just had to paint them. The “flower bed” was full of larkspur and poppies. Sue loves to hunt for antiques. Her home is full of lots of treasures that she has collected while out antiquing. Sue lives in Warrenton, Texas, and has a very cute bed and breakfast on the property next to her home. Both homes are filled with whimsical antiques that bring a smile to your face.

“Retro Meadow” Original Acrylic 24×30 $1100

2 August 2010

This painting is an abstraction of the original painting “In The Meadow”. As I was painting a miniature watercolor to go with the gift set for “In The Meadow”, I noticed that the watercolor looked very fresh and simply stated. I thought that it would be fun to use that idea for a semi- abstract feeling in a painting. As I began to put the bright colors and simplified shapes together I noticed that it reminded me of some of the designs that came out of the 50′s. So I named it “Retro Meadow”. It is a fun and happy painting.

“Ballad of the Sun” acrylic 22″ x 30″ $1100.00

2 August 2010

As a child I thought that the dust from horses hooves looked like clouds. I always loved the paints the best of all the horses. The horses are running through the sky with the New Mexico sunset behind them. The superimposed petroglyph sun, on top of the New Mexico sun, represents the agelessness of the universe. The colored ribbons that swirl are reminiscent of a maypole. The horses are positioned like the horses on a carousel, and painted in colors that you would see on a carousel. This is a hard edge fantasy painting that came from my imagination.
