“Summer” Giclee on canvas

31 August 2011

I was inspired by two completely different summer scenes when I created this painting. One was a country ride that I went on in the Hill Country, and the other was from a group of gorgeous wildflowers that were growing. The painting combines both of these scenes together. “Summer” has the bright happy colors of summer wildflowers, combined with the peacefulness that you feel in a country setting. I was intrigued with the challenge of combining peaceful feelings with intensely bright colors when I painted this.

“Hill Country” original acrylic 30×40″ $2200.00

17 February 2011

This painting came from a photo trip last spring in the Texas Hill Country.  The area is located near Fredericksburg, Texas.  This particular area is absolutely stunning in the spring when the wildflowers are beginning to bloom.  The road is called the Willow City Loop.  Rick and I drive it each spring because it is so beautiful.  This was one of the most gorgeous spring days I have ever seen.  It was warm and sunny and there was a gentle spring breeze blowing.  When I got out of the car to take photos of the wildflowers I was actually at the base of a hill.  As I took the photos I noticed that there was an old windmill in the distance.  I loved the view through the camera looking up the hill towards the oak trees and old windmill.  I have painted the view I had when I was at the base of the hill looking upwards towards the blue spring sky.   I’m not sure what the bright yellow wildflowers are, but they were brilliant against the deep blue of the bluebonnets.  They are not poppies.  They looked a little like buttercups, but I don’t think that they were.  The Indian paintbrush were just beginning to pop up among the other flowers, throwing their firey red mix into the landscape.  The warm spring sunshine against the vivid colors in the wildflowers was magical!

“Ballad of the Sun” acrylic 22″ x 30″ $1100.00

2 August 2010

As a child I thought that the dust from horses hooves looked like clouds. I always loved the paints the best of all the horses. The horses are running through the sky with the New Mexico sunset behind them. The superimposed petroglyph sun, on top of the New Mexico sun, represents the agelessness of the universe. The colored ribbons that swirl are reminiscent of a maypole. The horses are positioned like the horses on a carousel, and painted in colors that you would see on a carousel. This is a hard edge fantasy painting that came from my imagination.

“Aspen Gold” acrylic 12″ x 16″ $450.00

2 August 2010

When living in my Taos mountain home “Agua Viva Ranch” I always loved to watch the Aspen trees across from the stream in my yard. The leaves dance and look like pure gold when the fall winds rustle them. The blue of the
mountains and the blue of the stream below created an array of dazzling color contrasts together. Seeing these striking colors together inspired my surreal fantasy rendered in a hard edge style.
