Australian Moonscape” acrylic 72″ x 48″ $4,800.00

2 August 2010

This painting was painted when I lived in Mt. Eliza, Victoria, in Australia. I taught high school art in Australia at Pakenham High School and also Seaford Carrum High School.

During the eight years that I lived in Australia I was mesmerized with the lush green hills that were near the sea where I lived. The trees in the top of the painting are stylized to resemble the beautiful wrought iron work that is on the balconies in the city of Melborne. Melborne resembles New Orleans in this aspect. The ferns at the bottom
are a stylized version of the giant tree ferns that grow there.

The strawberrys were added from a wonderful day that I spent picking them in the mountains near Flinders. The strawberry jam that I made from them was as delicious as the beautiful strawberrys that it came from.

“Lavender Fields” Original Acrylic 30×40 $2200.00

18 July 2010

The hot lazy hazy days of summer are present in this painting! It was painted during the Lavender Festival in Blanco, Texas. My husband Rick and I displayed our art work at Heron’s Nest Herb Farm during the festival. This gorgeous farm was filled with lavender and
purple cone flowers.

The soft colors of the lavender and the sun setting in the hot skys seemed to be asking to be painted. This farm is definitely the most gorgeous hill country property I have ever seen. The giant oaks that were there nestle in the back of the lavender fields and the sweet aromas of lavender fill the air in the foreground. The deep shadows of sunset combine with the haze of the humidity and the low hanging clouds over the fields.

“Cotton Candy” acrylic 24″ x 30″ $1600.00

18 July 2010

This painting is a combination of several different ideas. The clouds came from a photo that my brother Dr. John Rauch took on his property in New Mexico. The lake came from the way Lake Travis, near my home in Spicewood,Texas, looks early in the morning when the mist still hangs over the water and hills. The masses of wildflowers came from the way the spring was this year in the hill country of Texas. The generous rains this spring produced a profusion of many different kinds of wildflowers. It has been the most gorgeous season for wildflowers that I have ever seen in the hill country of Texas. The puffy clouds and mist make me think of cotton candy.
